After a brief period in film direction at IAD., Marianne Lambert studied Journalisme and Communication studies at ULB, Bruxelles. At the beginning of the Nineties, she worked in film production as an assistant director. As the unit production manager of thirty films, she has spent some years as a general production manager, in particular for Chantal Akerman (La Folie Almayer), Frédéric Fonteyne (Tango Libre), Bernard Bellefroid (Melody) et Marion Hänsel (En amont du fleuve). I Don’t Belong Anywhere is her first film.

Catherine Bernstein is a documentary director. After having been an assistant in directing full-length feature films, she directed short films such as Zohra à la plage or Nue. She has filmed many documentaries following a semi-obsessive quest on the traces of the past (Assassinat d’une modiste, Une trilogie allemande, T4, Les Restitutions… ). She directed an experimental film on psychiatry, an essay on Alan Turing, or more recently, a film regarding Romain Gary in Sofia in 1946.

Former dramaturg with Czech public television (ČT) and head of programming at ČT Brno. Graduate of the Faculty of Journalism at Charles University and of the Documentary Film Department (KDT) at FAMU. Film director and dramaturg who has won more than 200 prizes at domestic and international festivals. His film and theoretical activities have long problematized the perception of documentary film as a record of reality.

Víctor Paz Morandeira is a film journalist for various magazines (MUBI, Blogs&Docs, El Amante, Cortosfera…) and for the Spanish National Radio. Editor of www.acuartaparede.com, he is also a programmer for Play-Doc International Documentary Film Festival and Curtocircuito International Film Festival, while collaborating with Kino Otok, (S8) Mostra de Cinema Periférico or the Gijon Film Festival, where he founded the critics’ section last year. As a critic, he is both a member of FIPRESCI and CAMIRA.

Gustavo Beck directed and produced the documentaries O Arquipélago (2014), O Inverno de eljka (2012), Chantal Akerman, de cá (2010), A Casa de Sandro (2009) and Ismar (2007). Gustavo is the Head of Programme of Olhar de Cinema – Curitiba International Film Festival, in Brazil. He is also a member of the selection committee of Cinéma du Réel – Festival International de Films Documentaires, in France. Beck is also a regular contributor to various national and international magazines and publications about film.

Chantal Steinberg

Chantal Steinberg was born in France to stateless parents. From 1987-1993 she was responsible for cultural distribution at the French embassy in Mexico. In Paris, she finished directing the documentary Chavela Vargas, a love story. She collaborated in writing the screenplays and translated it from Spanish to French for the cinema. She became editor-in-chief of the monthly journal “Mexico Today.” In 1996, she began collaborating with the General States of Documentary Film in Lussas (Etat Généraux du Film Documentaire de Lussas, France). Since 2001, she has directed the documentary school in Lussas, including its Master 2 in documentary creation (Université Stendhal de Grenoble/association Ardèche Images), writing and directing workshops, and professional meetings.

Olivia Rochette

Olivia Rochette (1987) makes films together with Gerard-Jan Claes. In 2010 they graduated at KASK in Ghent with the documentary Because We Are Visual. Since 2009 they work for the Belgian choreographer Anne Teresa De Keersmaeker and her dance company Rosas. In 2012 they made Rain, a full-length documentary about the transmission of De Keersmaeker’s contemporary choreography Rain to the Ballet de l’Opéra national de Paris. In 2013 she founded the production and distribution platform Zéro de conduite together with documentary filmmakers Gerard-Jan Claes and Elias Grootaers. This year she also co-founded Sabzian, a collection of online reflections on cinema. Currently Rochette is working with Claes on a new documentary, Grands travaux, set in a vocational school in Brussels.

Muriel Andrin is a professor within the Master of Theater Arts, Writing, and Cinematographic Analysis at the Free University of Brussels, where she has been teaching the history of documentary film since 2007. She is also president of the research center SAGES (Savoirs, Genre, et Sociétés – Knowledge, Gender, and Societies). Her research hinges on the representation of women in film and the work of female directors, as well as the syncretic variations between cinema and contemporary art.

Julien Contreau is a graduate of INSAS and works in Brussels as an editor for, among others, Claudio Pazienza, Thierry Knauff, Olga de Soto, Khristine Gillard, Comes Chahbazian… Active in production studios for over fifteen years, he chaired the Studio of Young Filmmakers (Atelier Jeunes Cinéastes, AJC) and is currently a member of the Audiovisual Center in Brussels (CBA). Cofounder of Raw Material (Matière Première) in 2009, he produced Comes Chahbazian’s movies (Ici-bas, Rhythm & Intervals) and Khristine Gillard (Tracé).

Prix du « Regard bruxellois »

A jury of citizens will award the “Gaze of Brussels” Prize for a first belgian full-length movie. This public jury, a reflection of Brussels’s identity, will have participated, beforehand, in meetings and workshops to discover and analyze cinematographic language. The “Gaze of Brussels” Prize consists of aid in promoting and distributing the prizewinning film. In this way, the DISC, a association specialized in distributing documentaries, will take charge of promoting the work, over the course of two years, in associated sociocultural networks as well as in national and international cinema festivals. This project, developed by GSARA in partnership with the Cultural Services of CPAS in six communes of Brussels and Zin TV, f, with the support of COCOF and the Fédération Wallonie Bruxelles – Permanent Education Service.
