Topologie du vide
A series of ephemeral performances transforms the place into a laboratory featuring man with nature.
Uncompromisingly Belgian, the national competition still sees a variety of landscapes parade through it. Russia and the Baltic countries marked by traces of various wars; Colombia torn apart; even vast, sprawling lines of barbed wire across the deserts of Uncle Sam. All converging towards this small territory trapped between its dramatic administrative ramblings, its local version of dubious alloys between sexuality, real estate gambling and its other post-industrial mutations which never cease to question the project of society, be it ongoing or upcoming. Formally, the radicality of temporal explorations proposed by others don’t leave anyone indifferent. Some revive the magical era of Madame Film, suggesting other worlds and feelings; others, in the oppression of a powerful and totalitarian form or the lightness of shared adventures, distill indicators of contaminated time from the lead eye or those rekindling ocular exploration. We couldn’t close our introduction without mentioning those boomerang films that, anchored in Belgian territory, reanimate the fickle distensions of time and space and project us into lands of emigration and other conserved times. Short and longform films compose as many radical ideas as possible, the better to seize you in the jungle of our Belgian suggestions.
